Philosophy

Steigen is all about the weather, the light and nature itself. We felt it was essential to harmonise our plans with these elements, while striving for simplicity and following Børge’s insistence on quality. That is why everything we build aspires to a gentle dialogue with nature. The result is the award-winning Sea Cabins, where everything superfluous has been eliminated and the design is wholly focused on you and your experience as our guest.

Bed with a view

Simply put, our aim is to enhance your sense of being in-the-moment. Add tranquillity and comfort, and you have the Manshausen experience in a nutshell. Each of our Sea Cabins enjoys a stunning panoramic view – savour it while you are lying in bed, lounging in the comfortable chairs, or preparing your meal in the kitchen. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer an unobstructed view of the ever-changing light and scenery. Let the stress and toil of everyday life dissolve as you settle into deep calm.

Compact living

To crystallise our philosophy into a small Sea Cabin that fosters a great holiday experience, we drew on solutions from Børge’s own skills as a deep-water diver, his tent expeditions on every continent, and his experience sailing the seas. These have a common denominator: minimalism that strives for efficiency and perfection. Everything has to be as utilitarian and as multi-functional as possible; drawers become benches, shelves become tables. While comfort is essential, the superfluous is stripped away.

Bathroom

Your sense of well-being is an essential aspect of your stay with us here at Manshausen, north of the Arctic Circle. That means being able to enjoy adventures in the magnificent scenery that surrounds you – regardless of the weather. We have the equipment you need for that. But after your exertions, you’ll want to reward yourself with a nice hot shower and to relax. The bathroom at the heart of your Sea Cabin is spacious and specially designed, but do consider luxuriating in our hot tub or sauna as well.

An extra bedroom

Your Sea Cabin may look small, but it actually contains an extra bedroom. At the back you will find a room with two beds and a window. The top bed is 1.4 metres, wide enough to accommodate two, and below it is a single bunk. This means that the cabin offers elbow-room enough for two couples have to enjoy the cabin, or that you can bring the kids. Comfortable beds and calm surroundings ensure a good night’s sleep.

Your entryway

We believe a well-designed entryway is essential. Ours is separated from the rest of the cabin, so you can leave or enter in rain or snow or storm without having the weather invade the cabin. The entryway has plenty of shelves, and pegs where you can hang your clothes to dry. Think of it an air-lock similar to what divers use! Our design makes it easy to keep your Sea Cabin warm and tidy.

Your sanctuary

Your Sea Cabin is your sanctuary – we designed it to be a time-out from everyday life. The huge panoramic windows give you an awesome connection with the surrounding scenery. Comfortable chairs, beds with warm duvets, the sound of the wind and the waves right below your feet – this is what we want to share with you. There is no TV, and we promise that no-one will come knocking on the door…

Your Sea Cabin is proof that “less is more”. Thanks to our architect’s ingenious design, you will find everything you need in your compact living quarters. And equally important, you will find tranquillity, light and magnificent scenery close enough…
