Minimalisme blandet med perfeksjonisme og effektivitet - hvor mest mulig gjør to ting. Hos oss skal du kunne ‘leke’ i naturen uansett vær. Det er vi utstyrt for. Men du skal også kunne ta en deilig varm dusj og slappe av etterpå. Det ligger i bakkant med eget vindu og faktisk to senger. En bred seng på 140cm og en underkøye, slik at du kan utnytte mulighetene maksimalt. Dere velger selv om dere vil være to par eller ta med ungene. Den er avlukket fra resten av hytta, for man vet aldri hva slags vær det er når du ‘hiver’ deg inn døren. På innsiden er det flust med hyller, knagger og tørkemuligheter. Her skjer overgangen fra ute til varmt og deilig inne. Omtrent som en dykkersluse! fra Grøtøy I dette bilde sees hovedgården på Grøtøy til venstre og den store Manshausen-brygga i bakgrunnen til høyre. Hovedgrunnen til etableringen av handelstedet var beliggenheten. Her lå en av de siste trygge havnene før den beryktede Vestfjorden og fiskere som kom sørfra lå her og ventet på gode værforhold før de kunne seile over til fiskefeltene. De kjøpte sin utrustning her og solgte fisken sin her. Manshausen ble på grunn av sin gode havn brukt som lager og utskipningshavn, og på slutten av 1800 tallet ble det brukt store resurser i etablering av steinkaier som kunne ta imot større båter. Her var det et yrende liv med tørking av klippfisk, arbeid og transport videre helt til kontinentet. Med sine tre etasjer pluss heisetårn og over 80 meters lengde var denne bygningen et mektig skue. Det røde naustet, som nå er verksted, er sammen med hovedhuset de eldste bevarte bygningene på Manshausen, sannsynligvis fra siste halvdel av 1800 tallet. Selve navnet Manshausen kommer antagelig fra en variant av ordet ”mannehodet” (hausen betyr hodet). Men begynnelsen av 1900 tallet forsvant de kongelige privilegiene til de nordlandske handelstedene. Seilskutetiden gikk mot slutten og frakteskipene ble stadig større og bedre, og anløpssteder som Grøtøy ble for grunne for de største båtene. Fiskebåtene fikk motor og kunne velge selv hvor de skulle levere fisken. Konkurransen hardnet til og i 1924 gikk handelsstedet konkurs. Manshausen har siden konkursen hatt flere eier. Til utpå 70 tallet var det fiskemottak og trelasthandel på Manshausen. Vi starter med å gå opp til Sørskottinden på 608m. Etter en rast og besiktigelse av ruta rappelerer vi ca 5 meter ned til den luftige og mektige traversen. Vi går med tau over travers-eggen, som er mellom 5 og 15 meter bred. Bortsett fra over Cruxet som er en liten knott vi klyver over for å komme videre, og som du kan se på bilde under. And the reasons are many: It is a 'stone's throw' from Manshausen, suitable for everyone who is used to walking in the mountains, it is a nice day trip, you get up high to have fantastic views to Manshausen, Steigen and Nordskotdalen. We start by going up to Sørskottinden at 608m. After a break and inspection of the route, we rappel about 5 meters down to the airy and mighty traverse. We walk with a rope over the traverse edge, which is between 5 and 15 meters wide. Except for the crux which is a small knob we climb over to get onwards (can see in the picture below). Well ahead at the end of the traverse, we go descend to Lundvannet, where we are picked up by car or boat. There are more or less daily express boat services from Bodø to our nearby village of Nordskot. If you are in Lofoten, you can take the express boat from the town of Svolvær. Manshausen is one of the last sheltered harbours before sailors enter the notoriously stormy Vestfjord. Despite its name, this is an open stretch of sea and not a sheltered fjord. Fishermen from the south lay here in wait for good weather before sailing over to the fishing grounds. It was here they bought their equipment and sold their catch. Manshausen was all about fishing, processing and transport of fish, and this was the basis for hundreds of years of continuous operation for Grøtøya as trading post. In the late 1800s, substantial resources were used building stone quays and houses on Manshausen. Workers dried and salted fish for further transport to the continent. The main house, which still stands today, was called “bødtkerboligen” because it was where the cooper (barrel maker) lived. This is now the oldest surviving building on Manshausen. With its three floors and numerous hoists, this 80-metre-long building was an impressive sight. The red boathouse, which is now a workshop, and the main house are the oldest preserved buildings on Manshausen. Both date from the latter half of the 1800s. The name Manshausen is probably a variant of the word “mannshaue” (man’s head). Possibly there was once a rock formation on the island that resembled a human head, and that it was cut up to make the stone blocks needed to build the large stone quay. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e971e5ac551cc54c0c1b9a2/1593702693200-6SCCNNLWWSSCL5NNEBCE/Manshausen-Ousland-Gr%C3%B8t%C3%B8ya6-32.jpg The history - Bankruptcy and new owners The photo on the right shows a time when you were just as likely to see women in fancy dresses with parasols on Grøtøya as in Paris! However, in the early 1900s, things changed. The system of royal privileges that prevented ordinary rural people from establishing shops and trading posts was eliminated. The era of the sailing ships also came to an end. Freighters became bigger and better, and ports like Grøtøya were too shallow for the largest vessels. Moreover, as fishing boats were equipped with engines, the fishermen were suddenly free to deliver their catch wherever they wanted. Competition intensified and in 1924, Grøtøya trading post went bankrupt. Since the bankruptcy Manshausen has had several owners. Until the late 1970s there remained fish processing and a small shop for building materials on Manshausen. Kommer du fra Svolvær ligger terminalen midt i Svolvær sentrum. Reisetiden Bodø - Nordskot eller tilbake er omtrent 1,5 time. Reisetiden Svolvær - Nordskot er ca 2 t. We then put on our climbing equipment, and rappel about 5 meters to access the narrow ridgeline that you can see from Nordskot. Walking in a rope team, we have fantastic views on either side of the ridge before descending to Ersvika and a return trip by boat (or car) to Manshausen.
